Graduation with Latin Honors

Honors GradThe University Honors Program is the sole entity at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities that grants Latin honors to undergraduate students. 

In order to be eligible for graduation with Latin honors students must (1) have completed at least 60 credits at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities campus, (2) have maintained successful, continuous participation in UHP, per UHP requirements, and (3) have a grade point average of at least 3.5 in their last 60 graded credits (not including transfer credit).

A student’s grade point average in these last 60 graded credits qualifies them to be considered for the following Latin honors graduation levels:

  • cum laude 3.5 GPA or higher
  • magna cum laude 3.66 GPA or higher
  • summa cum laude 3.75 GPA or higher

All students pursuing Latin honors must complete an honors thesis project consistent with departmental requirements and the level of honors they are pursuing.
