Chicano & Latino Studies

Major Requirements for Students Pursuing Latin Honors

Common Honors Courses in Major

CHIC 1102H - Honors Latinos in the United States: Culture and Citizenship

Required Thesis Course

HCOL 3101H or HCOL 3102H

Capstone Considerations

The capstone options include either A) a 20-to-25-page paper or, B) a community engagement project and oral presentation. The Honors thesis will count as the capstone project, and must comprise a written paper (which may be in conjunction with a community engagement project and oral presentation). This paper will go through a more extensive revision process than the one for a non-Honors capstone, and will also include a literature review and relevant citations.

Thesis Requirements

Students who wish to be considered for summa level must complete an oral exam with their committee members.

Plan C Thesis Options

Students may design projects equivalent to a 20-page research paper including curriculum plans for K-12 educators, community advocacy reports or policy papers, and web projects or other visual media, in conjunction with the faculty thesis advisor.
