National Defense Science and Engineering Fellowships

Awarded to applicants who will pursue a doctoral degree in, or closely related to, an area of Department of Defense interest in science or engineering. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals. SENIORS, GRADUATES, or first- or second-year GRADUATE STUDENTS may apply; must have outstanding academic ability; must have an undergraduate degree in hand by the beginning of the award period. Must submit GRE scores. Fellowships are tenable only at U.S. institutions of higher education. Approximately 200 are awarded nationally. Covers tuition, fees, and a stipend approximately $30,000 per year; stipends are for 36 months.

This scholarship does not require a nomination from the University of Minnesota. The Office for National and International Scholarships consults with interested students on assembling competitive applications, helps them prepare for interviews or other stages of the selection process as necessary, and publicizes results.
