Arts Exploration With Northrop

Have you ever wanted to explore the cultural opportunities of the Twin Cities: both from the
audience and behind the scenes? In this experience, the University Honors Program is partnering with Northrop to give participating students an exclusive glimpse into the performing and fine arts, exhibits, lectures, and related experiences.

Students will meet weekly on Thursdays from 2:00-3:30pm, to discuss the cultural events you’ve attended, hear from guest speakers, and learn about what a life in the arts–as an attendee or creator–can look like. You’ll receive complimentary tickets to a variety of Northrop performances, including access to conversations with performers and directors. While Northrop’s performance series focuses on dance, we’ll be identifying performances and exhibits that span a range of opportunities, including: dance, theater, film, visual arts, lectures, museums, live music, and more. You’ll be expected to attend a selection of these performances, mostly during evenings and weekends.  We will also explore the cultural opportunities off-campus, with field trips to some of the premier cultural landmarks of the Twin Cities and conversations with the people who run them.

This experience is open to any student with an interest in exploring the arts, whether you’re an experienced performer majoring in the arts, or a curious first-timer looking to broaden your cultural horizons. Your completion will be assessed through your contributions to discussions and participation in cultural activities, as well as a final project that can be either a written response, or a personal artistic response, to events attended throughout the semester.
