Knitting (K)NEXUS

Knitting is a life skill! It is associated with lower heart rates and blood pressure, as well as decreased stress hormones. Anecdotally, knitting is associated with increased patience, better concentration and dexterity, and lowered anxiety. Nearly 2000 years old, its techniques are used in the manufacturing of cutting-edge fabrics and last-minute birthday gifts! Together, we will learn to knit, or improve on existing skills, and complete at least two knitting projects: one individual and one collective.

Along the way, we’ll work with guest teachers who will help us build skills and place knitting in the context of other such fiber arts as crochet, weaving, felting and spinning.  And we’ll also welcome guest experts from a range of fields where knitting and fiber techniques are explored, such as materials engineering, chemistry, psychology, archeology, gender studies, architecture, and art history.
