Meets: Mondays, 2:30pm-4:00pm
Love crosswords, logic puzzles, or cracking codes? In this NEXUS experience, we’ll meet every Monday to solve pen-and-paper puzzles together. Each week will focus on a different puzzle mechanic. We’ll solve examples, then discuss how they work and what makes them satisfying. Along the way, you may hear from guest speakers, including puzzle writers and enthusiasts from across the UMN community.
No puzzle experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to get stuck sometimes.
Your completion will be assessed through your contributions to discussions and participation in weekly puzzle solving, as well as a final project consisting of (at least) one puzzle that you write yourself!
EXPERIENCE GOALS:
Desired outcomes for students include…
- An awareness of different puzzle mechanics and how to approach them.
- Experience writing your own puzzles and playtesting new puzzles in various stages of development.
- Engagement with the puzzling community both at the UMN and the greater Twin Cities area.
Application Opens Nov. 2
