CPSY 3360H - Child Psychology Honors Seminar
PSY 3801H - Honors Introduction to Psychological Measurement and Data Analysis
CPSY 4348H
Honors students don't take the non-Honors CPSY4347W capstone course; rather they complete an honors thesis through CPSY 3360H and CPSY 4348H. These two courses act as a thesis sequence to introduce students to research in the department and guide them through the process of writing a thesis. CPSY 3360H is taken in Fall of Junior year, and counts as an honors course experience. CPSY 4348H, taken in Spring of Senior year acts as the thesis supporting course. Students planning on Fall graduation should consult with an advisor as soon as possible for alternative sequencing.
Cum laude theses are typically 15-20 pages. Theses with magna cum laude and summa cum laude distinctions are typically 25-30 pages, with the additional pages reflecting a broader and deeper literature review, more extensive data analyses, and further consideration of limitations and future directions). Students graduating with a summa cum laude distinction are also required to make a public presentation of their thesis attended by at least one member of their thesis committee.
All theses must be approved by a three member committee. At least one committee member (not necessarily the advisor) must be a tenure-track faculty member at the University of Minnesota, and at least one must be affiliated with the department in which the thesis is conducted.
