Honors Recognition Ceremony

The University Honors Program is pleased to host an annual Honors Recognition Ceremony. All students graduating with Latin Honors will be recognized for their dedication to learning, research, and the experiences that have placed them on the path to become our newest leaders and scholars.

Ceremony for the Class of 2019

The 2019 ceremony will be held at 7pm on Thursday, May 2nd in Northrop Memorial Auditorium. Each student will receive a certificate, signed by President Kaler and the Director of the University Honors Program, and a medallion to be worn at their college graduation ceremony. This is a wonderful opportunity for family and friends to celebrate your accomplishments as an honors student. A reception will follow the ceremony. Please stay posted for details early in the Spring 2019 semester.

Keynote Speaker

Judge Carolina LamasWe're thrilled to welcome Judge Carolina Lamas as the keynote speaker for the 2019 Honors Recognition Ceremony! Carolina Lamas is a Judge for the Hennepin County District Court, where she is currently working in Treatment Courts, specifically, Mental Health and Veterans Courts. A University of Minnesota alumna twice over, Judge Lamas graduated cum laude with degrees in both Spanish and Political Science (2000), and went on to complete her J.D. from the Law School in 2003. She worked a an assistant public defender for Ramsey County from 2002-2007, and as Executive Director for the Neighborhood Justice Center in St. Paul from 2007-2014. At NJC, Judge Lamas helped to provide comprehensive criminal defense services to low-income and indigent people in the East Metro area, with a focus on serving communities of color. She has been Vice President of the American Civil Liberties Union (2003), and has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for Tempo, a program that, among other ventures, provides affordable tickets to Minnesota Opera performances for opera-curious young adults.
