Capstone Considerations

Honors students must do the following four things to successfully complete their capstone project:

  • Consult with a faculty expert on their topic
  • Do "original research" – whether that means collecting and analyzing new data or offering new interpretations of primary texts.
  • Evidence strong writing skills – sentence level mastery, clear organization, correct style and citation, etc.
  • Organize a thesis committee to oversee your work
Thesis Requirements

Students pursuing magna cum laude honors must do the above things at a superior level, producing work that is close to publishable in an undergraduate journal. Summa cum laude students must declare their intention to graduate summa two semesters prior graduation. The summa thesis should be 45-60 pages long.

Plan C Thesis Options

This would look similar to the "creative option" for the capstone. Students should discuss their ideas with their faculty thesis advisor. Plan C projects at the summa level will be held to the requirements above, save that the page length for written work may be shorter if it is supplemented by an equivalent amount of work in another format or medium.
