When I received the invitation to join the University Honors Program, I weighed my choice between opting in or out carefully – I had proven myself academically to get to that point, but did I want to continue challenging myself in college or take a well-deserved break from those challenges?

In February 2021, the University of Minnesota established the Race Power and Justice in the United States (RPJ) liberal education theme. This theme requires undergraduate students to take a class centering around social justice that helps them understand the complex history of racial injustice and systemic inequities in the United States.

Critical thinking and engagement with complexity are two things UHP greatly encourages in its students and it does so through the unique, specialized environments of Honors Seminars.

UHP is adding two new Honors Seminars to its repertoire for the 2023-24 academic year, and each promises new, unique experiences around specialized subjects that stray away from traditional ways of teaching.

UHP will be hosting an event for faculty and students to connect in an informal setting. Pie with Professors will be held Tuesday, February 21st from 6-7pm in Middlebrook Hall's Terrace room. This is a great opportunity to engage with faculty across various disciplines, discuss research, learn about their work on campus, and of course - enjoy some pie!
