Please follow ONIS on Twitter (@natscholUMTC) for the latest news and updates.

Celebrations

Twenty-three seniors and recent graduates applied this fall to the Fulbright US Student program to study, conduct research, or teach English abroad next year. Students and alums applied to study cartographic preservation in Manchester, geo-thermal energy in Reykjavik,  public health Taiwan, and to teach English in eight different countries among other things. We hope that many of them join the 148 Golden Gophers who have gone abroad as Fulbrighters over the last 30 years. The next cycle of Fulbright applications will open April 1, 2024.  Juniors and seniors interested in applying should arrange to talk with ONIS about their plans.

Twenty-seven undergraduates and graduate students applied in November for Critical Language Scholarships to study Arabic, Azerbaijani, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Swahili next summer.  If selected, they will spend ten weeks abroad next summer engaged in immersive language study funded by the US Department of State.  77 University of Minnesota, Twin Cities students have been selected as Critical Language Scholars since 2009.
